Buyequip's ewaste recycling centre in Red Hill is now officially opened

A big thankyou to all the people who attended Buyequip's opening night at Red Hill on Monday September 28. School holidays and a Monday night inhibited the numbers but it was an enjoyable affair all the same.

The night flowed with beer, wine, food and a talented young guitarist completed the atmosphere with some contemporary tunes.

The "guess the weight of the ewaste cage" competition generated much interest and Sara - representing TES AAM Recyclers Australia - was a deserving winner with the closest guess to 213kg. Partnering with Ecolodge at the Glasshouse Mountains, Buyequip was able to present Sara with a nights accommodation including breakfast at this tranquil, eco-friendly getaway.

Attendees showed their generosity with bids on the auction. Two quality ex-corporate computers were auctioned and all proceeds - a total of $420 - was donated to Lifeline Community Care Queensland .Colin Hannigan, Operations manager for Lifeline Ipswich and West Moreton shire, graciously accepted the donation on behalf of the charity. Mr Hannigan noted that Buyequip and Lifeline have developed a strong relationship and he hopes that this continues to grow in the future.

Buyequip will move out of the Stafford location at the end of October and their retail store - after nine prosperous years - will close. Buyequip's head office will be at the Red Hill location with the intention to expand to other locations in future.

Looking for something to do this long weekend? Get along to Greenfest 2009

Don’t forget that Buyequip will be attending Greenfest this long weekend, so be sure to pay a visit to the Botanic Gardens in Brisbane city where ‘all things green’ will come alive.

Buyequip’s stall will be located in the Green Economy Hub under the Big top – an ideal place to escape the wet weather that Brisbane is expecting over the weekend.
The food court and the speaker’s forum are close to our stall so before or after you grab a bite to eat, come over and say hello.

Although the Buyequip stall will be a highlight of the festival, there will be plenty to see and do over the three days. It will be a national as well as global affair. From local music acts and exhibitors to the international appearance of eco-fashion leader Summer Rayne Oakes and the world’s fastest electric car.

This is only the second year of Greenfest and the 2009 event is set to trump the much applauded 2008 festival. More than 50,000 festival-goers are expected to adorn Brisbane’s premier green location - the Botanic Gardens - over the three days and rain hail or shine, the show will go on.

Greenfest brings together varying industries, conservation groups, government and community groups to promote the need for a greener future.
The three-day festival at the Brisbane Botanic gardens begins from 12:00pm, tomorrow Friday June 5 – which aptly happens to be World Evironment Day - and ends Sunday June 7.

Don’t let a little wet weather deter you from a great day out for all the family – besides rain is all part of nature - vital for prosperity and the environment.

Look for our ‘eWASTE RECYCLING’ stall at Greenfest

Buyequip will be an exhibitor at the 2009 Greenfest held in Brisbane on the June long weekend.

Greenfest brings together varying industries, conservation groups, government and community groups to promote the need for a greener future.
The three-day festival runs from June 5-7 at the Brisbane Botanic gardens.

Aside from paying a visit to the Buyequip stall – sure to be festival highlight – there will be plenty to see and do with live music acts, speakers, a green motor show and more than 150 exhibitors.

As recyclers of IT equipment, Buyequip will bring a unique dimension to the event by exhibiting the importance eWaste recycling.

Electronic waste is one of the fastest growing toxic wastes worldwide. In Australia in 2006 approximately 1.6 million computers ended up in landfill. As our nation becomes more technologically savvy and the demand for high-end software continues – the amount of this kind of waste shall only increase. All Australians need to take more eco-friendly measure when disposing of their deemed “older” equipment. Be environmentally conscious and give Buyequip a call.

Not just for the greenies among us – Greenfest is for all. Get down to the Botanic Gardens from Friday June 5 to Sunday June 7 and see some truly innovative businesses like Buyequip aiming for a cooler planet.

Reuse versus recycle…recycling is good but reuse is better

A research project carried out by the UN University in Tokyo has proven that the reuse of PC’s is 20 times more environmentally friendly than recycling.

The research was carried out by Eric Williams and Ruediger Kuehr and was documented in their book ‘Computers and the Environment: Understanding and managing their impacts’.

Here at Buyequip, as remarketers and recyclers of IT equipment, our whole business is defined by the premise of reducing the carbon footprint. Buyequip has in the past and continues to be involved in the exporting of computer hardware to India, the Philippines, and Papua New Guinea. This hardware can then be reused in Universities, schools or other institutions.

In January 2007 and 2008 Buyequip was involved in trading deal of a charitable kind. Brett and the team at Buyequip orchestrated the export of more than 350 PC’s and monitors to the School of St. Jude in Tanzania.

Founded in 2002 by an ambitious woman from an Australian sheep farm, Gemma Sisia, the aim of The School of St. Jude was to provide poverty stricken children with the rare opportunity of a better life through education. The PC’s supplied by Buyequip are now being reused by the teachers and students in the school.

Through business relationships such as these, Buyequip is simultaneously helping the environment and those disadvantaged people in less developed countries.

Doing your part too...it's only fair

I found this website about cartridges and was astounded by the figures relating to printer cartridges adding to landfills. Absolutely everything is a potential threat to our environment; it's just a matter of finding ways to help the situation.

Here at Buyequip we're doing our bit by sending used printer cartridges to cartridges 4 planetark. Some interesting facts:
  • Australians send 34 printer cartridges to landfill every minute.
  • That equates to 2,050 an hour.
  • That's 5,000 tonnes per year.
  • Or 21 times the combined weight loss of all Weight Watchers members in Australia in 2006!

"We are determined to make our landfills the biggest loser by urging Australians to deprive their garbage bins of electronic waste. Join us in the fight to tip the scales and help our landfills trim down! Simply drop your used printer cartridges into a ‘Cartridges 4 Planet Ark' recycling box."

The benefits of recycling

There is minimal unused free space left in our surrounding environment, and this space is diminishing more every year, every month, everyday.

We are educated on the importance of recycling paper, plastics, and household items; however electronic waste (eWaste) is also a growing problem. These days as we keep up with the latest trends in technology our homes and offices often have obsolete equipment, such as computers, printers, ink cartridges, fax machines, etc. These bulky items take up the precious dwindling space in our environment and cause havoc for the land fills.

Recycling gives us the opportunity to prolong the life of IT equipment by salvaging parts to rebuild and enhance items, thereby minimising eWaste.

With the increasing concerns of e-waste in our environment, Brisbane City Council dedicated a weekend in July to recycling unwanted electronic equipment.

This was a huge success with over 200 tonnes of unwanted electronic equipment recycled by Brisbane citizens including desktop PCs, laptop PCs, monitors and many other electronic equipment, all aiming towards helping the environment.

At Buyequip it is our business to provide these services everyday of the year. We are available Monday to Friday to come to your location to clear out any unwanted electronic equipment.

For more information about the Brisbane City Council e-waste initiative have a look at their website.
Our remarketing and recyclng service is vastly growing by which we are determined to reach out to our customers in as many ways as possible.
